A source at the Pasadena Weekly reports that the paper is up for sale. Though publisher Joe Pan won't confirm this, the price tag is $700,000, half the price that Times Mirror paid for it in 1998.
In light of the September 13 closures of Times Community News' Our Times community editions for lower than expected ad sales, as well as the Daily News closing two community editions, speculation
is that TCN's other properties including the Westside Weekly, Glendale News Press and San Gabriel Valley Weekly would hit the blocks soon.
Pan insists that ad revenues have stayed even since the
former indie paper was sold to Times Mirror and that his paper is not affected by the TCN closures. "We operate independently of the L.A. Times main product." When asked if the paper was for sale, Pan
replied, "Not that I'm aware of." - Debbi Swanson
