Boston, Detroit Newspapers Cope With Layoffs, Delivery Reductions

The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press are taking steps to cope with a tough economy, reducing home delivery to three days a week -- Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays -- and trimming print editions. Exact PDF copies will be emailed to subscribers. Separately, The Boston Herald laid off 24 staffers, 13 voluntary and 11 involuntary, a 6% work force reduction that mostly affected the business side of the newspaper.
