New York Times Raises Sunday Price

  • March 5, 2001
The New York Times announced today that it will raise the suggested newsstand price of the Sunday newspaper effective March 25. The Sunday paper in the greater New York metropolitan region will increase to $3.00 from $2.50. In the Northeast it will increase to $3.75 from $3.00. The National edition will increase to $4.75 from $4.00. There will be no change in the suggested price of Monday through Saturday newsstand copies.

The suggested newsstand price of the Sunday paper has been the same since 1996 when it was last increased in the Northeast (Maine to Virginia). The prices of the Sunday paper in the New York region and nationally were last increased in 1995.

Since the last price increase in 1995, The Times has introduced a number of significant changes to the newspaper's coverage and presentation including: later deadlines for news and sports scores, additional color, and new and expanded sections. The higher suggested newsstand price for the Sunday newspaper reflects rising production and distribution costs as well as higher newsprint costs.
