Senate OKs Curb on Campaign Ad Cost

The Senate voted Wednesday to stop what Sen. Robert Torricelli called the price-gouging that television networks practice in charging office seekers for political ads.

The amendment to campaign spending legislation, approved 70-30, would require television stations to abide by current law that political ads be given the lowest rate offered throughout the year. It would prevent networks from bumping political candidates in favor of advertisers willing to pay more.
