Brands have nothing on generic names when it comes to owning a hot Internet address. Ad.com fetched $1.4 million at a recent auction held by Los Angeles-based domain name registration company Moniker.
The winning bidder? Divyank Turakhia of Directi.com and CEO of Skenzo, a domain parking company.
The most paid for any other domain at the auction held last Wednesday at the Traffic
conference in Santa Clara, California was BottledWater.com, which went for a mere $45,000. Athletic.com was had for $40,000; Vixen.com, for $32,000; and Shutter.com, $25,000.
In all, Moniker took
in more than $2 million from the event, with an average selling price of $23,443.
Other top-sellers of late have included Toys.com, which sold for $5.1 million in a bankruptcy auction;
Auction.com, for $1.7 million; and Fly.com for $1.76 million. --Mark Walsh
