eMarketer recently reported that, according to the Boston Consulting Group, by the 4th quarter of 2000, 68 million internet users in the US had purchased something online (up from 53 million in 1999) -- representing 55% of all internet users. Additional findings included:
- 17% of online consumers bought a toy online in 2000 -- up from 4% in 1999
- The most-satisfied online consumer spent an average of $673 online in 2000
- The least satisfied spent $428, on average
- 41% of consumers said they stopped shopping at a problematic site (up from 28% in 1999)
- 2% stopped shopping online completely
