Traffic to Candidate's Sites Soars

The 2000 presidential election will be remembered as one in which browser refresh buttons were clicked as many times as TV remote controls. Daily traffic for top news and information sites on the Web for both home and work soared across the board, with the political section of ABCNews.com spiking 366% and Yahoo!'s political news area jumping 357% at home from November 6 to November 7. CNN.com was the top news site overall with almost 1.6 million visitors at home and 2.4 unique visitors logging on to the site at work. The top news and information sites experienced record traffic numbers as they attempted to keep surfers abreast of the moment-by-moment drama of the closest presidential election in history.

Daily traffic numbers for the presidential candidate sites fought a seesaw battle during the past three days with Gore's site peaking daily on Sunday, November 5 with almost 153,000 unique visitors, while the George W. Bush's site surged on Election day to more than 118, 000 unique visitors at home.
