NBC Edges Fox In First Sweeps Week

  • November 7, 2000
From broadcastingcable.com - NBC nudged past Fox for a narrow victory in the opening week of the November sweeps. NBC's Monster Thursday lineup provided the winning margin, with "E.R.," "Friends," "Will & Grace," "Just Shoot Me" and "Cursed" the top-rated shows for the week. That helped produce an average 5.6 rating among adults 18-49 to Fox's 5.1, with ABC at 4.5 trailed by CBS at 3.5.

Fox's Sunday/Monday shows fueled its surge, led by "The X-Files" and "The Simpsons" among the top 10 shows for the week, and "Malcolm In the Middle," "Ally McBeal" and the surprising "Normal, Ohio" among the top 20. ABC scored with "Monday Night Football," "Drew Carey," "The Practice" and "Spin City." CBS's only entries in the top 25 were its Monday mainstays "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "Becker." ABC ranked second in total average viewers with 12.5 million, followed by CBS with 11.5 million and Fox with 10.4 million. NBC averaged 13.2 million viewers for the week.
