'NYT' Stops Staff Cuts

The New York Times is finished cutting staff -- for the foreseeable future, reports the New York Post. In a memo slugged "We can exhale now," executive editor Bill Keller said he has reduced newsroom head count by 100 people, including 26 ousted over the past three days. The copy desks for the national and foreign desks will merge in January; the copy edit functions of the travel and style/home section will also stay combined. One plus: the 5% pay cuts imposed last year will be eliminated on Jan. 5, as will mandatory furloughs.
