Nathan Lane is mulling a return to series television, almost three years after his NBC vehicle "Encore! Encore" was yanked after a handful of episodes.
CBS has locked in a holding deal with the
Tony-winning thesp, still soaking up the applause from his current run in the smash Broadway musical "The Producers." The pact calls for the network to develop a project for Lane, perhaps for the
2002-03 season.
Because of his commitment to "The Producers," it's unclear when Lane will begin working on a possible series. When he does, however, CBS has first dibs.
Lane's recent feature
credits include "Isn't She Great" and "Love's Labours Lost." NBC benched "Encore! Encore!" soon after its fall 1998 debut.
