MeasureCast, Inc., the providers of next-day audience size and demographics reports forInternet radio broadcasters, today reported that radio stations broadcasting urban and rhythm and blues music
over the Web are attracting larger online audiences.
BroadcastURBAN.com's WHUR/96.3 FM, an Adult R&B station in Washington, D.C., has enjoyed a steady increase in audience size and total number
of hours streamed since it first appeared on the MeasureCast chart in June. For the week of August 6-12, it placed 6th. Another BroadcastURBAN.com station, WBLS/107.5 FM (Urban R&B format) in New York
also has done well, moving from 31 in the June MeasureCast Top 50 ranking to 10 in the July Top 50 list. It claimed the 10th spot in last week 's Top 25 ranking. In addition, CableMusic.com's Top 40
R&B offering, an Internet-only station, won the 16th spot last week after finishing 26th the week before. And Internet Radio, Inc.'s Urban station, also an Internet-only, moved from 28 two weeks ago
to 22 last week.
Additionally, 12 of the MeasureCast Top 25T Internet radio broadcasters enjoyed an increase in audience size, while 16 stations recorded an increase in the total number of
hours streamed, or total time spent listening (TTSL). The total time spent listening to a spectrum of Internet radio stations measured by MeasureCast for the week of August 6-12 remained flat compared
to the previous week, keeping the MeasureCast Internet Radio Index at 207.
Other facts for the week of August 6-12:
-· 81% of all listening occurred between 5 a.m. Pacific and 5 p.m. Pacific.
-· The peak listening hour was 11 a.m. Pacific, with 9% of the day's listening.
-· 11% of the week's TTSL occurred over the weekend.
-· The peak listening day was Wednesday, with 20% of all
TTSL occurring on this day.
-· The largest single age group listening to Internet radio last week: 25-34 year-olds (29%).
-· 54% of listeners were under 35; 25% were younger than 25, and 6.5%
were over 55.
-· 70% of listeners were men; 30% were women.
-· Top streaming nations include the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Australia, and Mexico.
-· 32% of U.S.
listeners were from the South, with the West accounting for 29%
