In anticipation and recognition of the fourth annual National Coupon Month this September, the Promotion Marketing Association (PMA) Coupon Council has released coupon usage statistics for 2000.
According to the statistics, marketers distributed more than 330 billion coupons last year, an increase of 7.5% from 1999. In all, more than 4.5 billion coupons were redeemed, with an estimated
savings of $3.6 billion to American consumers. Women continue to use coupons more than men, 85.3% to 68.6% while coupon use remains high across all education levels, with 73% of high school graduates,
80% of college graduates and 80% of post graduates, reported as users. Similarly, coupon use is high in all areas of the country ranging from 82.1% of West Central state residents to 73.5% of Pacific
state residents.
