White House Supports FCC Spectrum Plan

The White House is supporting the Federal Communications Commission's proposal to reclaim 500 MHz of federal and commercial spectrum to stimulate mobile and fixed broadband, reports Mediaweek. The Presidential Memorandum signed by President Obama calls for legislation to double the amount of wireless spectrum. Not everyone in Washington, D.C. agrees that there is a spectrum crunch. Broadcasters fear relinquishing any more spectrum would hinder the ability to broadcast in HD, or provide mobile digital TV now in the early stages of roll out.
