Positive movement began to re-emerge among several U.S. states in the October Job Opportunity Index, a monthly measure of U.S. job supply from FlipDog.com, an online recruiting site operated by a
subsidiary of TMP Worldwide Inc., despite a six-month low in the national supply of job opportunities. In all, 14 states posted increases in the number of Internet-posted job opportunities last month,
while an additional 21 showed little or no change. The national JOI ended at 27.7 points for October, down a slight 0.6 point from September's report. Four states (Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont
and Virginia) maintained labor markets favorable to job seekers this month, meaning job supply was relatively high, while unemployment remained relatively low. Conversely, Washington and Oregon
favored hiring organizations over job seekers in the hiring process (i.e. these states had a combination of low job supply and high unemployment).
