October Top 50 Internet Radio Stations

MeasureCast, Inc. today released its list of the top 50 streaming radio stations for October, along with its monthly streaming radio demographics report.

An analysis of more than 1,200 streaming radio stations measured by MeasureCast in October shows that listening to radio on-line continues to be a workday phenomenon, with 82% of all listening occurring during traditional work hours. Only 9% of the month's listening occurred during weekends.

Most listeners (69%) were men. In addition, MeasureCast finds that people of all ages tune in to the variety of music formats, news and talk shows available from webcasters worldwide, with the largest single age group comprising people 25-34 years old (29%). In October, 54% of listeners were under 35, 25% were younger than 25, and 7% were over 55.

London-based terrestrial webcaster jazzfm claimed the top spot for the second month in a row, streaming 261,984 more hours of music than it did in September to 35,667 more listeners. Internet-only webcaster MEDIAmazing.com ranked second by streaming 331,604 more hours to 55,936 more people, and third ranked Virgin Radio streamed 150,290 more hours of adult alternative music to 20,905 more listeners than it did in September. The 1,217 Internet radio stations measured by MeasureCast in October streamed a combined total of 17,848,690 hours to 2,277,996 people around the world.

The top 5 streaming radio networks measured by MeasureCast in October and the total number of hours they streamed were: WARP Radio (1,819,596 hours); StreamAudio (1,607,360 hours); SurferNetwork (1,248,169 hours); Cablemusic Networks (993,967 hours); jazzfm: (934,979 hours).

AM and FM webcasters secured 30 of the top 50 spots in October, and 11 of the top 25 spots - one less than in September. Of the 41 webcasters that appeared on both the September and October charts, 38 saw increases in total time spent listening (TTSL) to their stations, and 37 enjoyed larger audiences (or cume) compared to September.
