Nielsen, Viacom Reach Multi-Year Agreements

Nielsen Media Research and Viacom announced multiyear agreements for audience measurement services. Included are the CBS and UPN networks, syndicators King World and Paramount, plus 12 cable networks: BET, CMT, Comedy Central, MTV, MTV2, Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite, Noggin, VH1, Showtime, TV Land, Spike TV, The Movie Channel and 35 Viacom owned-and-operated television stations in 28 markets.

Nielsen said the agreements support the largest expansion of the National Peter meter Sample. By 2006, the sample will nearly double from 5,000 homes to about 10,000 homes. It also figures into Nielsen's plans to expand Local People Meter service in the top TV markets, including 15 Viacom stations in nine of the top 10 markets. The 35 Viacom station subscribers included in these agreements are: WCBS New York; KCAL Los Angeles; KCBS Los Angeles; WBBM Chicago; KYW Philadelphia; WPSG Philadelphia; KBHK San Francisco-Oak-San Jose; KPIX San Francisco-Oak-San Jose; WSBK Boston; WBZ Boston; KTVT Dallas-Ft. Worth; KTXA Dallas-Ft. Worth; WUPA Atlanta; WKBD Detroit; WWJ Detroit; KSTW Seattle-Tacoma; WTOG Tampa-St. Pete-Sarasota; WCCO-TV Minneapolis-St. Paul; WBFS Miami-Ft. Lauderdale; WFOR Miami-Ft. Lauderdale; KCNC Denver; KMAX Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto; KDKA Pittsburgh; WNPA Pittsburgh; WJZ Baltimore; WNDY Indianapolis; WWHO-TV Columbus, OH; KUTV Salt Lake City; WTVX West Palm Beach-Ft.
