Yahoo! Number One With Kids and Teens

  • November 13, 2002
More children and teenagers visited websites in the Yahoo! property in September than any other property, according to the Nielsen//NetRatings Global Internet Index. "Yahoo! consistently draws the world's largest Internet audience, which extends to teens and children," said Richard Goosey, international chief of measurement science, Nielsen//NetRatings. "The list of properties popular with young Internet users between the ages of two and 11 differed from the list of properties equally popular with adults with Walt Disney and Viacom, which owns the Nickelodeon cable television network, as well as flash applications provider Macromedia. "Last month, properties unique to the teenage audience included Amazon, which provides a wide selection of books, music and other products suited to the teen allowance, Sharman Networks, with its media file-sharing desktop Kazaa, and eBay, which also showcases products in price ranges attractive to teenagers," Goosey said. "Companies reaching out to these two age groups have to carefully balance their advertising strategies, with a focus on building brand awareness and loyalty."
