Since the introduction of DoNotCall.gov three days ago, 45% of consumers who are aware of the FTC's National Do Not Call Registry have already signed up for the service. According to a recent survey
of 300 consumers conducted by InsightExpress, those Americans who were unaware of the registry, and were presented with a description of the service, more than three quarters (77%) said they are
likely to register. Also, if participants had their way, the initiative would not stop with the telephone as more than 8 in 10 consumers (83%) stated that they would like to see a similar
Government-sponsored program such as the National Do Call Registry to prevent the issuance of Spam or unsolicited e-mails. According to respondents, Spam is a bigger nuisance than telemarketing
intrusions as on average consumers report receiving 16 times more Spam than they do telemarketing calls.
