The Yule Log, a New York Christmas tradition that showed nothing but the fireplace at Gracie Mansion accompanied by Christmas Carols, which returned to television last year ending a 12-year hiatus,
scored a 3.9 Nielsen Station Index (NSI) household rating and a 9 share from 9 am to 11 am on Christmas Day -- an increase of 26% over last year's broadcast. The Yule Log peaked at a 4.8 rating
between 10:30 am and 10:45 am and delivered a 4.6/11 NSI rating/share in its second hour. Each Nielsen Station Index rating point represents 72,823.6 TV households. The Yule Log was a holiday
tradition on Channel 11 from 1966 to 1989. During its hiatus, the many letters and phone calls to Channel 11 requesting its return attested to its popularity.
