Media General has added Ronald Redfern as president of its Florida Communications Group and promoted Gilbert Thelen to president and publisher of the Tampa Tribune. Redfern, who joins the company from Freedom Communications, will oversee Media General's Tampa operations. Thelen, acting publisher of the Tribune since May, has already assumed his new role. "Convergence or cooperation among our three media in Tampa has produced excellent results," said Media General president and chief operating officer Reid Ashe in a press release. "Now we're going to build convergence into the heart of our business strategy using market-based measures, such as audience and revenue share, and unified on-site leadership. We'll serve the market as a true multimedia enterprise, delivering news and information whenever, wherever and however people want it."
