ASME Board Re-Elects Ungaro

Susan Ungaro, editor-in-chief of Family Circle, has been re-elected president of the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME), it was announced yesterday. Mark Whitaker, editor of Newsweek, has been re-elected vice president. David Granger, editor-in-chief of Esquire, and Cynthia Leive, editor-in-chief of Glamour, have been re-elected secretary and treasurer respectively. Each ASME officer is elected for a one-year term and can be nominated for a second one-year term. Cullen Murphy, managing editor of The Atlantic Monthly, Martha Nelson, managing editor of People, Nancy Novogrod, editor-in-chief of Travel + Leisure and senior vice president/editorial director of American Express Publishing, and Kit Rachlis, editor-in-chief of Los Angeles magazine, have been elected to the board for two-year terms, and may be re-elected for a second two-year term. Roberta Myers, editor-in-chief of Elle, and Emil Wilbekin, editor-in-chief of Vibe, were re-elected for a second two-year term. The other members of the board who continue to serve their terms are: Keith Bellows, editor-in-chief of National Geographic Traveler, Janet Chan, editorial director of The Parenting Group, and Evan Smith, editor of Texas Monthly. Cyndi Stivers, president/editorial director of Time Out New York remains on the board ex-officio.
