"Google typically displays
more summer seasonality than other search engines, given its high usage among students in the academic world," Douglas Anmuth, an analyst with JPMorgan Chase & Co. in New York, wrote in a research
note. "The company, which gets most of its revenue from search-based advertising, is enhancing Internet features amid heightened competition from Yahoo and Microsoft after the two companies began
implementing a multiyear joint search agreement last year," notes Bloomberg Businessweek.
In June, Google unveiled a search feature called Instant Pages that gives Chrome browser users quicker connections from links on Internet query results, which was designed to cut 2 to 5 seconds from the search process.
