Weather Channel Reasons With Hurricane Season

  • April 14, 2003
The Weather Channel will add to its lineup "Forecast Earth," a new programming franchise focused on the causes and effects of the climate and environmental forces that are changing our planet, and the latest research into them. The "Forecast Earth" programming franchise debuts with a partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The first fruits of that partnership are a series of vignettes that can be seen on April 21 - 25, a five-part "El Nino" special series of reports airing during the cable network's popular primetime program "Evening Edition." The "El Nino" specials will be comprised of five different vignettes, including a look at how many coastal communities in California are literally "sliding into the sea" due to damage caused by El Nino. In this first vignette The Weather Channel and NOAA attempt to shed light on why these particular communities are being affected so harshly, and how measurements NOAA is taking thousands of miles away, in the open ocean and from outer space may hold the answer.
