Computer giant Hewlett Packard has pulled an ad featuring astronaut imagery following Saturday’s Shuttle Columbia disaster. Publishers were informed of the decision on a conference call with H-P last
weekend, just hours following the Columbia’s explosion,
Media Daily News has learned. “They didn’t want to run anything featuring an image of a guy wearing a space suit,” says one publisher
whose title was instructed to run other ads in the campaign created by Omnicom’s Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. Hewlett Packard features a number of companies using its products in the campaign. The
NASA version will be replaced by other versions of the ad, featuring companies such as Starbucks and Amazon.com.
