This weekend brought both good and bad news for AMC Networks, owner of cable channels AMC, IFC and WE tv. The good: it signed a new carriage deal with AT&T U-Verse (financial terms not
disclosed). The bad: satellite company Dish Network dropped AMC from its roster -- just two weeks before the premiere of AMC's critically lauded "Breaking Bad."
He said/she said: AMC
claims Dish never discussed rates with it, and that the decision to end carriage of AMC channels had "everything to do with an ongoing $2.5 billion breach-of-contract suit currently standing between the two companies," writes Daniel Frankel.
Meanwhile, Dish doesn't want to pay for low-rated IFC and WE tv as part of the package, and also "claims AMC has 'devalued' its shows by letting them be streamed on over-the-top services like
Netflix," according to Frankel.
