2.5 Million Votes Cast for Sexiest Man

  • October 8, 2003
Fans of the daytime drama All My Children have enthusiastically interacted with their favorite show by casting more than 2.5 million online and text messaging votes in the seven-week All My Children's Sexiest Man in America Contest. ABC Daytime and Telenor Mobile Interactive USA (www.telenor-interactive.com), an interactive media company, partnered to allow fans to vote through wireless premium cross-carrier text messaging to choose the winning contestant. The winner of All My Children's Sexiest Man in America Contest won a cameo appearance on the daytime drama and will appear as the sexy spokesperson for Fusion, a cosmetics company started by All My Children characters, Greenlee Smythe (Rebecca Budig) and Kendall Hart (Alicia Minshew). The winner will be announced and will appear on the show on October 10. Among those avid fans who voted via premium text messaging on their wireless phones, Telenor Mobile Interactive found that more than 40 percent voted 3 - 10 times or more in a given week (round), enabling them to receive an exclusive text message story scoop on an upcoming episode at the end of that voting period. Several impassioned fans supported their choice by text messaging 60 votes in a single week. In addition, ardent fans sent thousands of unsolicited text messages to the ABC Daytime drama, commenting on plot developments and asking questions about the cast. Telenor Mobile Interactive's findings show that All My Children fans from California cast the most text message votes, accounting for 16 percent of the vote. The company's premium text message services charge a fee that is shared with their media partners, generating additional revenue for their entertainment properties
