How are TV showrunners coping with the new ways viewers watch TV -- from a barrage of tweets when folks hate a plot twist, to the trend of binge-watching? For one, "now there’s so many
ways for people to watch shows that [broadcast networks] recognized that serialized storytelling actually hooks an audience, and they’re not as afraid about people missing stuff because they
have so many ways of getting caught up," notes Carlton Cuse, showrunner for A&E's "Bates Motel."
Cuse was part of a panel of showrunners for six top dramas who discuss such issues in
this piece. Some good stuff here, including a quote from an "amusingly combative note to ['Grey's Anatomy' and 'Scandal' showrunner Shonda Rhimes'] more than 420,000 followers: 'I make stuff up
for a living. Remember, it’s not real, O.K.? Don’t tweet me your craziness.'”)
