BoardProspects, a social networking site for current and prospective board members, launched out of beta with 3,100 members and plans to
offer an online educational course in board governance, the company announced Tuesday.
The Boston-based social networking site, which the company calls a "Match.com for board members" allows
users to network with and search for prospective board members. The site is targeted at public, private and nonprofit corporations, and the website allows users to volunteer, apply for, or recruit
candidates for boards of directors.
The majority of the site's 3,100 members are individuals, according to a company spokesperson.
BoadProspects makes money from premium subscriptions,
and also plans to launch a paid, Web-based educational program called BoardU.
Users of BoardU can pay for courses on board governance and other board-related education programs, and the some
of the classes could be included in a premium subscription, according to a spokesperson.
BoardProspects has $3 million in funding to date and its investors include public company directors,
private company CEOs and hedge fund officers, according to the company.
The startup, which launched in 2012, has three employees. It was founded by two attorneys – Mark Rogers and Bobby
Driscoll.
“As our online community continues to grow, we are encouraged by the diversity of our members and that public, private and non-profit corporations are becoming active on the
site, searching for board candidates,” said Rogers, BoardProspects CEO, in a statement. “Our newest launch will enhance the experience for early BoardProspects users and assist new members
in applying and recruiting candidates for boards.”
The free social network also provides members access to to boardroom news and corporate governance best practices, according to the
company.
