Ofcom fines ESPN For Lack Of Audio Descriptions

ESPN has been fined £120,000 by Ofcom for not providing enough audio descriptions in its output. The media regulator ruled that the sports channel only provided the visually impaired service on 2.3% of its shows in 2012, lower than its 5% target. It also missed the target back in 2011. Ofcom stated that the rule breach was "both serious and repeated". However, ESPN insisted that live sport was "not generally suitable for audio description on television".
