'Today's Headlines' Surpasses One Million Subscriber Mark

  • January 3, 2001
New York Times Digital, the Internet division of The New York Times Company, announced today that it has surpassed one million unique subscribers for "Today's Headlines," a free email product that features the day's top headlines from each of the main sections of NYTimes.com.

In addition, NYTimes.com officially launched three new weekly email products today - Your Money, Travel Dispatch and Circuits - each of which have more than five thousand readers signed up after a two-week soft launch period, the company said. These newsletters contain original, exclusive content from New York Times reporters, including David Pogue, who writes the State of the Art personal technology column for The New York Times.

A fourth new email newsletter from NYTimes.com, New York Happenings, will launch on Thursday, January 4, and will cover local events. According to company officials, it has already attracted six thousand interested readers.

Recent event-related email newsletters from NYTimes.com have also proven very successful, NYTimes says. "Postcards from Sydney," the daily Olympics email written by New York Times sportswriter George Vecsey, was sponsored by Nortel and Vivendi. More than 30,000 people signed up to receive it during the Olympic Games. In addition, more than 72,000 readers signed up for "Campaign Countdown," a special elections email that was distributed daily and sponsored by Compaq.
