CPG giant General Mills has acquired Annie’s Homegrown, known for its mac and cheese line, for $820 million in cash. The buyer also owns Pillsbury, Cheerios, Haagen-Dazs and
Nature Valley. The deal follows a trend of big corporations buying small brands perceived as home grown and chemical free. Campbell Soup bought the baby food maker Plum Organics last year, for
example.
