U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co., the top U.S. smokeless tobacco maker, on Friday said it would suspend advertising in certain magazines after coming under fire for advertising in publications with young
readers. The company said it was choosing to suspend ads "in a small number of magazines" to show its marketing program was oriented just to adults. It said it will review concerns about possible
youth readership. A recent report from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health showed that U.S. Smokeless Tobacco has increased its spending on advertising in magazines read by youths over the
past few years.
