People who bring their own bags to shop buy organic food reward themselves with sugar. A marketing professor at Harvard Business School studied the grocery bills of thousands of
California shoppers. They were able to compare purchases by people who brought their own bags versus those who didn't, because of discounts for bag-bringers. People who brought their own bags were
more likely to buy organic goods—but were also more likely to load up on high-fat, high-calorie junk.
