In a reverse-Seinfeld press conference in Tokyo yesterday (it was about something, but Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda and Mazda CEO Masamichi Kogai were coy on specifics), the two automakers
announced they would have a “long-term partnership” to deepen collaboration on products, manufacturing and technologies. They said it was about corporate bromance, mostly. But the subtext:
manufacturing and technology costs. Toyoda explained to one cheeky reporter that it was an engagement, not a marriage.
