Super Bowl ads are oftentimes more talked about than the actual game so it's no surprise that advertisers will pay an arm and a leg to grab a spot. Next year will be no exception, according to CBS chief executive Les Moonves. During a quarterly earnings call on Wednesday, Moonves said that the going price of a 30-second spot on the network's broadcast of Super Bowl 50 is $5 million.
I'm at a loss for words. Looks like CBS needs to shore up their earnings reports with a wild hype
The "going rate" may be $5 million, but, as a rule, the actual rate is about 5-10% less. That way the buyers can claim that they "beat" the "going rate" and make their clients happy. Of course, if the Super Bowl was bought "programmatically", the computers wouldn't know that and they would pay $5 million per spot.
