Out With The Old, In With The New: Conde Nast Shakes Up Editorial Team

  • January 6, 2005
Thomas J. Wallace, editor in chief of Conde Nast Traveler, is the new editorial director of Conde Nast Publications, succeeding James Truman, who logged eleven years in the role.

In a statement, Truman, who plans to move to Europe, said: "After the creation of Lucky, Cargo, and the forthcoming Domino, and the revitalization of a number of our other magazines, I felt this was a good time for me to make a change. To work at Conde Nast with Si (Newhouse Jr., Conde Nast Chairman) and our extraordinary editors, art directors, and photographers has been a great pleasure."

Meanwhile, Wallace, who has served as editor in chief of Conde Nast Traveler since 1990, said: "After sixteen years at Conde Nast Traveler, I know first-hand how well Conde Nast's magazines engage with the world, and I look forward to expanding the company's horizons and my own."

Truman, who succeeded Alexander Liberman in 1994, had originally joined Conde Nast in 1988 as a features editor at Vogue before leading Details magazine's repositioning from 1990 until 1994.
