Condé Nast named Brendan Monaghan publisher and chief revenue officer of
Condé Nast Traveler, after the unexpected ouster of his predecessor, Bill Wackermann.
Wackermann was the former publisher of Details, Glamour, Brides, Bon Appétit and W about five years ago. In 2013, he was moved to Condé Nast
Traveler.
In a Nov. 18 FashionWeekDaily.com story, Wackermann said he was taking his team on a Royal Caribbean cruise for their national sales meeting to celebrate a successful
year at the publication.
On Instagram from Montego Bay, Jamaica, Wackermann posted a photo of himself and more than 30 staffers, writing, “love this crew #team #success
@cntraveler.”
However, last Friday, Condé Nast Traveler announced Wackermann was leaving the company -- just after the team set sail.

Wackermann was forced to leave the group mid-cruise and fly home to get the bad news.
Monaghan will take over Dec. 7.
“[Monaghan’s] deep
understanding of the digital marketplace, combined with his experience and success in the luxury market, will be key as we take Condé Nast Traveler to new heights,” stated Bob
Sauerberg, president of Condé Nast.
Monaghan previously served as senior vice president of advertising at The New York Times, as well as publisher of T: The New
York Times Style Magazine.
He is also responsible for spearheading the successful launch of The New York Times’ “Men’s Style.”
Prior to
The New York Times, Monaghan worked in various capacities at Condé Nast. He started as wine and spirits director at
GQ from 2000-2003, then spent two years as Los
Angeles sales manager at
Vogue. He was later associate publisher of
GQ.
