WOMMA Extends Time For Ethics Code Comments

  • March 9, 2005
The Word of Mouth Marketing Association will extend the comment period on its recently released ethics code--which has been the center of a barrage of criticism by the National Institute for Media and the Family--until mid-April, the association announced Tuesday. The code, which was released in February, was criticized by NIMF for not providing adequate protection restrictions on marketing to or with minors. NIMF this week kicked off an ad campaign decrying what they describe as "buzzsploitation."

"With all the publicity, lots of people are hearing about this for the first time, so we wanted to make sure that everyone got a chance to have their say," said WOMMA President Andy Sernovitz. "This is a vital issue, and it doesn't need to be rushed." The comment period will extend until April 15, Sernovitz said, and the ethics code will be discussed at WOMMA's summit conference in Chicago on March 29 and 30.
