AOL Promotes 'Robots' With Home Page Takeover

America Online today uses the AOL.com home page to promote the opening of the animated film "Robots." Starting at 5 a.m., and running for 24 hours, the site will feature a rich media banner by Viewpoint that will unroll to take over the home page, expanding from 728 x 90 to 728 x 270. The banner, which contains a button that links to the Moviefone showtimes page for "Robots," will only unroll once per user.

The move is part of a larger AOL effort to lure advertisers with new offerings. (See "As Online Video Accelerates, AOL Pushes Content Web-Wide.")

For the promotion, AOL will also change the colors on the home page to match the colors in the ad "Robots." For example, the color behind the channel navigation bar to yellow from white, while the page background will be blue-toned, rather than white.
