GQ will increase its newsstand price from $5.99 to $6.99, starting this October. The magazine's March, September and December marquee issues will also increase by a dollar to $7.99.
Publisher and CRO Howard Mittman made the decision to raise the cost of GQ after receiving positive market results over the past year with pricier issues, such as GQ’s 2015 Men of the Year issue, which features higher-quality paper and a larger format for $7.99 per issue.
"The print market is shifting and changing at a dramatic rate, but the one constant that remains is consumers still understand and appreciate quality,” stated Mittman.
He added that in a world full of “disposable content,” GQ is committed to producing “quality editorial” that consumers are “willing to pay significant premiums” for it.

GQ isn’t the first magazine to experiment with newsstand pricing. In May, Rodale Inc. announced Prevention magazine would transition to an ad-free business model to “create a premium product.” The magazine’s newsstand price increased by a dollar to $4.99.
And the stakes are high to succeed.Details shuttered last year following declining print advertising pages over the last decade. Much of the fashion and lifestyle content that used to appear in Details now appears in GQ Style (previously a special issue from GQ).
