Time Inc. Creates General Manager Roles For Brand Groups

Time Inc. has charged four of its executives with the new role of general manager, effectively replacing the group president role it eliminated this summer.

Each general manager will oversee the business side of one of five brand groups the company created in July: News and Luxury; Sports; Celebrity and Entertainment; Lifestyle; and The Foundry.

In July, Meredith Long was the first executive to be given the responsibility of general manager. She oversees the News and Luxury group, which includes Time, Fortune, Money, Time for Kids, InStyle, StyleWatch, xoJane, Food & Wine, Travel + Leisure and Wallpaper.

Now four other executives will join her as a brand group general manager. They will also continue in their current roles at Time Inc., leading each group’s strategy, growth and performance, working across editorial, digital, business development, sales, finance, video and marketing/communications departments.

"As Time Inc. moves toward more category and audience selling — and with more decision-making happening at the enterprise level — it is important that each brand retain focused leadership," Time Inc. president and CEO Rich Battista said in a memo Monday. All brand general managers will report to Battista.

He added the changes will improve “collaboration and communication” within the company. They come just before budget meetings are scheduled for November 21.

Patty Hirsch will oversee the Sports group, made up of Sports Illustrated, SI Kids, Golf and Fansided. She is also SVP of digital.

Bruce Gersh will lead the Celebrity and Entertainment group, which includes People, Entertainment Weekly, People en Español and Essence. He is also SVP of strategy and business development.

Regina Buckley will oversee the Lifestyle group, composed of Real Simple, Southern Living, Health, Cooking Light, MyRecipes, Coast Living and Sunset. She is also SVP of digital business development and business operations.

Edouard Portelette will oversee The Foundry, which includes TheDrive, Extra Crispy and Life VR. He is also SVP of The Foundry.

According to the company, HelloGiggles, Cozi and Departures will keep its current management structure.
