The publishers of two of the nation's Big 3 national newspapers - the
New York Times and
Wall Street Journal Thursday reported weak advertising results for the first quarter due largely
to softness in the financial services and technology categories. The New York Times Co. said its ad sales rose a modest 0.9 percent during the quarter, while Dow Jones & Co. said advertising linage in
the
Journal fell 8 percent during the quarter and nearly 10 percent in March. -- J.M.
