After operating for eight months without an editor,
The Washington Post Magazine has snagged Richard Just for the top job.
In a memo announcing his appointment, the
magazine's feature editors said Just would lead coverage of the myriad aspects of Washington life in "ambitious, provocative and thoughtful ways.”
He begins April 3.
Just was previously editor at The New Republic, Newsweek and National Journal. His editing jobs have ended with sales and closings.
He left The New Republic
after it was bought by Chris Hughes and Newsweek when it was sold to IBT Media in 2013. In 2015, Atlantic Media decided to shutter National Journal’s weekly print
edition.
Under his tenure, TNR received its first National Magazine Award nomination for general excellence in 20 years.
Just replaces Lynn Medford, who retired after
15 years at The Washington Post and six years as editor of its magazine.
Published Sundays, The Washington Post Magazine focuses on long-form narrative journalism
about the Washington, D.C. area. Popular features include matchmaking Date Lab, fashion and beauty column Trend Report, restaurant reviews from food critic Tom Sietsema and the humor column from Gene
Weingarten.
