'Outside' Magazine, AIM Announce Executive Promotions

Two promotions have been announced this week at Outside magazine and Active Interest Media (AIM).

Outside has appointed Scott Parmelee to EVP and Chief Revenue Officer. He joined the publication in 1987 and has served as vice president and publisher for the last 20 years.

According to a statement, the move “follows a trend of traditional print media companies recognizing the publisher title alone does not do justice to the variety of content platforms and revenue streams" it has added to its arsenal in the digital age.

Parmelee will oversee revenue for Outside's online efforts, events, podcasts, video production, social platforms and magazine.

This year, Outside celebrates its 40th anniversary. The brand reaches an audience of 7.5 million every month across platforms.

Separately, AIM has promoted Jonathan Dorn to chief innovation officer. He was previously SVP of digital and creative services. Dorn will launch a new department to oversee and accelerate online education efforts across the company.

He will also continue to handle AIM’s digital, data and video efforts, as well as its marketing services division, Catapult Creative Labs and new product development.

Dorn serves as general manager of AIM’s Outdoor Group, which reaches a monthly audience of 8 million and includes brands such as SKI, Backpacker, Warren Miller Entertainment, Climbing, SNEWS and National Park Trips.

Dorn joined AIM in 2007 as editor-in-chief of Backpacker.
