Disney Revenues Fall

The Walt Disney Co.'s media properties - including ABC, Lifetime and ESPN - saw revenues fall sharply in Q2, dropping 10% to $2.1 billion. Operating income also fell 40% to $288 million. Disney blamed lower advertising revenues and weak ratings at ABC as well as the weak ad market at the company's TV stations like WABC in New York. Operating income from Disney's cable networks also fell, down 25% in Q2 to $234 million. Disney reported higher expenses at Lifetime, a weak advertising market plaguing ESPN and uncollectable accounts from Adelphia Communications Co. and a German cable TV operator.
