A total of $818 million in media billings changed hands in July, double what happened in June and including the U.S. Postal Service and Burger King accounts. MediaAnalysisPlus Barometer found that
June's media account turnover was $387 million. "Things picked up in July, with many significant media accounts being reassigned," said Jim Surmanek, CEO of MediaAnalysisPlus, which publishes the MAP
Barometer. "However, unless there are some big surprises brewing, I doubt we will see the same pace repeated in August." The largest change occurred when Burger King consolidated its media buying at
Interpublic's Media First International, adding $200 million in billings. The U.S. Postal Service gave its $130 million account to Campbell-Ewald and the California Lottery chose Foote, Cone & Belding
for its account worth more than $100 million.
