Oath Is Laying Off Roughly 500 Employees

Oath, the umbrella brand that covers several Verizon units, is laying off 500 staffers -- roughly 4% of its workforce -- in the latest round of cuts at the company, according to media reports. This follows 2,100 terminations in June.

“We’re about four months post-close of Verizon’s acquisition of Yahoo, and we’ve made these changes to our team to further align our global organization to our 2018 road map,” an Oath spokesperson says, according to Variety.

The cuts affect several departments, including ad sales, engineering and product development, TechCrunch reports. Overall, Oath has 14,000 employees worldwide.

Some reports put the total of layoffs at 560.

Oath encompasses several brands, including AOL, Huffington Post and Yahoo. The latter unit is now enduring fallout from a data breach affecting all of its 3 billion users.
