MPA Announces Kelly Winners To Celebrate Magazine Ad Creative

MPA - The Association of Magazine Media announced the 2018 winners of its magazine awards yesterday at its annual American Magazine Media Conference.

The winners of the Kelly Awards, which honor “the creative spirit of excellence and innovation in the art of advertising in magazine media" are given to agency creative teams, advertising clients and magazine publishers.

The “M&M’s Caramel Launch – Advent Accordion Pop-Out Unit” campaign for Food Network Magazine by agency Mediacom/Starcom won the award for best print magazine creative. 

“The O Mag Insiders for Chico's, Pandora & Clinique” for O, the Oprah Magazine won best magazine media creative/campaign, and the “Personal Style Awards” campaign won best custom magazine media program, created by agency Mindshare agency for TRESemmé in Elle magazine.

The winners were chosen by a panel of judges made up of agency creative directors, marketing executives and magazine media experts.

The annual Best Covers Contest from the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) was also announced at the conference. The New Yorker's Aug. 28, 2017 "Blowhard" cover was named Cover of the Year.

Illustrated by David Plunkert, the cover features a Trump-like character blowing into a sail that resembles a Ku Klux Klan hood.

Entertainment Weekly's election-themed RuPaul cover, “Let’s Hear It for the Red, White and Ru" won the Readers' Choice Award.

Meredith Corp.'s Magnolia Journal magazine, a quarterly lifestyle title produced in collaboration with Joanna and Chip Gaines, the stars of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper” show, won Magazine Launch of the Year.

Separately, today ASME announced the winners of the third-annual ASME Next Awards to recognize talented magazine journalists under 30.  

The five winners include Dan Alexander, associate editor at Forbes; Lauren Chan, formerly fashion features editor at Glamour; Aymann Ismail, video editor and producer at Slate; Vann R. Newkirk II, staff writer at TheAtlantic.com; and Katy Waldman, staff writer at Slate.

The winners were chosen by a group of print and digital journalists. They will be honored at the Ellie Awards Annual Luncheon on March 13.
