'Billboard' Taps Hannah Karp As Top Editor

Billboard magazine is getting a new top editor. Hannah Karp, Billboard’s news director and former Wall Street Journal reporter covering the music industry, is being promoted to the editorial director post.

While The New York Times reports this post has been open for over two years, a spokesperson for Billboardsaid before Karp was editorial director, Ross Scarano, vice president, content, and Mike Bruno, former senior vice president, content, held the position.

Per his social-media account, Ross Scarano remains vice president, content for Billboard. Bruno left the company last summer.

Though questioned, Billboard did not clarify the management roles at press time.

Karp will oversee all editorial coverage and analysis of the music business at Billboard.

This is the first editorial promotion at Billboard since parent company Eldridge Industries created Valence Media, bringing together its publishing, film and TV production, and live events broadcasting properties earlier this year.

Karp told The New York Times she plans to expand Billboard's international coverage and focus on technology and investments.
