Reformed spammer Scott Richter, formerly known as the "Spam King," and his company, OptInRealBig.com, agreed to pay $7 million to Microsoft to settle a spam lawsuit. Microsoft said it will put $5
million of the settlement towards Internet safety initiatives, while $1 million will go to community centers in New York state. In 2003, New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer joined Microsoft
in suing Richter.
